About Me
Hello there! Thank you so much for wanting to know a little bit more about me! In July 1987, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4. My parents were not surprised, since my grandmother on my dad’s side already battled the disease. My dad noticed the symptoms: I was having bathroom accidents frequently and I was constantly thirsty. They took me to see a doctor right away and…
Boom.
Since then, I have lived a life with needles, insulin, glucose meters, shots, and lots of blood. There have been bad lows, awful highs that take forever to come down, snacks, snacks, more snacks, and wonderful advancements in treatments. My routine went from taking shots twice a day for 13 years, to four times a day, to my very first insulin pump therapy with a Medtronic 503C at age 18. I got my first CGM sensor in my late 20s, and currently I’m on the Dexcom G6 with a Tandem tslim x2 with Control IQ.
My last HbA1c was 6.9% and I’m happy with that, but I know I can do better! I work hard everyday to maintain my numbers and improve my health. It’s not an easy job, especially since my pancreas didn’t live up to it’s lifetime warranty. But I do what I can with what I have, and I’m here to share it all with you!
There have been so many experiences as a T1D I have to tell. Some informational, some lifestyle and others are just mechanical. They are real and raw. My goal is these stories and posts will help you on your journey, wherever it may lead.
